Dr. Eggman Or Dr. Robotnik

Before diving into the topic at hand, let's talk about why I'm doing this.  This debate has no reason to exist.  When it comes down to things like reviews, debates, persuasive papers what do they all have to support them?  Facts.  Because things are one way or another is what builds our thoughts on something.  If the facts don't match up with your reasons, your opinion falls apart.  I don't mind someone having a different opinion than me, but I do mind when an opinion (be it alike or different) has no facts to support their claim.  So then... let's see how this turns out.

Dr. Robotnik or Dr. Eggman, this seems to spark fans into complaining about it but what do they really know of the topic?  There are fans like myself who are just fine with calling him Dr. Eggman, and there are fans that seem to be disgusted with the Eggman name.  But why are some hating on the Eggman name?  People believe that when the Adventure series of the Sonic games started that the Doctor's name was changed from Robotnik to Eggman. This is not truth or opinion but a straight out lie.  This is what I hope to correct in the thoughts of Sonic Fans and the public alike.

Now for a history lesson.  Back in Japan they were developing the first Sonic game, and the name they gave to Sonic's enemy?  It was Dr. Eggman.  Don't believe me, well take a good look at the Sonic 2 game for the Genesis.  Haven't any of you wondered why the final stage of the game was called the Death Egg?  Or how about something that could easily be missed, in the Wing Fortress Zone there is a large 29 on the ship, and right below that is says as clear as day, Eggman. Through the ship one can see the letters "EG" in a hexagon shape.  So while Japan has always called him Dr Eggman, beyond them people got used to calling him Dr. Robotnik.

Why did they change his name to Robotnik outside of Japan, I don't know and I don't care because it doesn't have much effect of how the name thing works now.  But with the release of Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast you know they couldn't do much since it was created in Japan and had the Japanese voices added.  So in the end he was given BOTH names.  Dr. Ivo Robotnik being his "real" name, while the Eggman thing was made into something of a super villain like name.  So while being called Eggman he is still the same Robotnik from before.

With this blog I'm not saying you have to start calling him Eggman, far from it.  I myself grew up with the Robotnik name but got used to calling him Dr. Eggman now.  But there are some out there who got used to calling him Dr. Robotnik and reject the Eggman name out of some kind of spite.  Most of which are the "classic" Sonic fans.  Sorry fans of the Genesis games but he was Eggman then too and you have to respect that, don't act like how he is now has anything to do with him being called Dr. Eggman because it doesn't. Showing disrespect for the name is no different than insulting the Genesis games such fans claim to love.  If you want to continue to call him Dr. Robotnik that is fine, just remember that Robotnik and Eggman are in fact the same person.

This issue bugged me so much since in a world where information like this is very easy to look up there are STILL people who seem ignorant of facts like these.  While how the Doctor was then and now is up for debate, there is no room for debate when it comes to the name.

Sing it with me, "I AM THE EGGMAN!  THAT'S WHAT I AM!  I AM THE EGGMAN.  I GOT THE MASTER PLAN!"

Welcome to the world of Dragon

I've had too much time on my hands an so I thought it was finally time to share my thoughts to whoever was interested in listening.  I tried to do video reviews before but... well I felt that I didn't have the voice for it.  I "might" do a Let's Play some time in the future but now will not be the time.

I hope to discuss anything from video games, anime/manga, movies, and so on.  I'm up for anything as long as I have the ability to view/play it.

As for the first topic I dare to discuss, I'm going to tackle one of the biggest things that has bugged me in the Sonic the Hedgehog series.... the Dr. Eggman Vs. Dr Robotnik Name War!
